New Delhi, July 21: The Delhi Police has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the violence that erupted during the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) ‘Chalo Parliament‘ protest on Monday. Police sources indicate that, in addition to identifying those involved in the clashes, investigators will also explore whether a larger conspiracy was behind this unrest.
Over 70 individuals have been detained in connection with the violence, and multiple FIRs are being filed based on complaints received from various locations. Reports suggest that at least 50 police officers were injured when protesters allegedly broke through barricades and clashed with security personnel.
According to police sources, some individuals detained during the protest against alleged irregularities in the NEET examination were not actual students. Investigators are currently verifying their identities, affiliations, and roles in the violence.
Furthermore, police sources revealed that investigators are examining whether the violence was premeditated or incited by organized groups. They are analyzing CCTV footage, mobile phone videos, and other digital evidence to identify those responsible for damaging public property, attacking security personnel, and inciting violence.
Another critical aspect of the investigation is the role of social media in escalating tensions. Sources indicate that several suspicious social media accounts disseminated misleading and inflammatory content before and during the protest. Investigators have identified numerous posts that spread false information related to the clashes, seemingly aimed at inciting unrest.
Police sources reported that several posts allegedly circulated by Pakistan-based social media handles promoted violence and spread unverified claims. One widely shared post falsely claimed that seven protesters were killed, 391 were injured, and 250 were arrested during the clashes. Authorities stated that these claims were baseless and appeared to be intended to instill fear and provoke further unrest.
The Delhi Police is coordinating with cyber experts to trace the sources of such posts and determine if a coordinated online campaign was launched to spread misinformation during the protest.
Sources further noted that if the investigation reveals the involvement of any political organization or individual in planning, inciting, or funding the violence, appropriate legal action will be taken, regardless of political affiliation.
