New Delhi, July 21: The U.S. military has initiated a new round of attacks against Iran. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), this escalation is a response to rising tensions between the two nations.
CENTCOM announced on the social media platform X, “At 4 PM today, the U.S. military commenced a new phase of attacks against Iran at the direction of the Commander in Chief. These strikes aim to further weaken Iranian military capabilities used to target commercial shipping in the Hormuz Strait.”
Previously, CENTCOM stated that U.S. naval and air resources in the Arabian Sea have been actively enforcing a declared naval blockade against Iran, limiting maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports.
In a post on X, CENTCOM noted, “U.S. forces aboard the USS Boxer (LHD-4) are supporting flight operations around the clock in the Arabian Sea. As of July 20, the U.S. military has redirected seven commercial vessels and disabled one ship to prevent them from entering or exiting Iranian ports.”
Earlier on Monday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran claimed to have conducted retaliatory missile and drone strikes on U.S. military bases and assets in Jordan and Kuwait.
In a statement released through its official news outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC claimed to have targeted U.S. Boeing C-17 Globemaster III and Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft at the airport in Aqaba, Jordan, causing significant damage to several planes.
The IRGC further stated that it attacked a U.S. early warning radar system in Kuwait with drones, and targeted a warehouse containing equipment and aircraft parts at Ali Al Salem Air Base, igniting several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
According to the Xinhua news agency, the IRGC indicated that these attacks were retaliation for ongoing U.S. strikes within Iranian territory.
On Monday morning, CENTCOM reported on X that its forces successfully conducted an attack against Iran for the ninth consecutive evening.
The statement added, “CENTCOM assets targeted Iranian military command centers, air defense systems, coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communication networks to further diminish Iran’s ability to attack commercial vessels and civilian sailors transiting the Hormuz Strait.”
