Washington, July 21: The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has confirmed that 100 American soldiers were injured in retaliatory attacks from Iran.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell provided this information, stating on X, “These soldiers were injured in attacks following July 7. Of these, 96% have returned to duty.” He noted that most injuries were minor head injuries (concussions).
Parnell’s statement came in response to a report by The New York Times, which claimed that the Defense Department was not publicly disclosing information about US soldiers injured in the conflict with Iran.
He also mentioned that further details regarding the injured would be released through the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS).
Meanwhile, the number of US military fatalities has risen to 17, with three soldiers recently losing their lives. According to the Pentagon, two soldiers were killed in an Iranian attack on US troops in Jordan on Friday. Their identities were made public on Monday. First Lieutenant Tyler Fehan died during operations on Friday, while Private Isabella Gonzalez was killed in an Iranian attack at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base on Saturday.
Additionally, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that another American soldier died in northern Iraq on Saturday while attempting to safely deactivate unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone.
The US military has continued its operations against Iran. On Monday, at 4 PM EDT, the US conducted another airstrike on Iran, marking the tenth consecutive day of military action.
According to updated figures from the Pentagon’s Defense Casualty Analysis System, 427 US soldiers have been injured since the launch of ‘Operation Epic Fury’ on February 28.
In a recent interview with NewsNation, US President Donald Trump stated that the fallen soldiers made the “ultimate sacrifice while serving the country.” He reiterated that the main objective of this military operation is to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons.
