Emma Navarro Upsets Seeded Player as US Open Enters Fourth Round

New York, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Emma Navarro made headlines at the 2026 US Open by defeating seventh seed Karolína Muchová in a stunning upset. The match, held on September 5 in New York, concluded with Navarro winning 6-3, 7-5, securing her spot in the fourth round.

Sixth seed Linda Nosková also faced a tough challenge, overcoming the 29th seed American player, Ann Li, with a score of 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-2. Nosková initially dominated the match, leading 6-2, 3-0, but Li fought back, pushing the match to a decisive set after winning a tense tiebreak in the second. However, Townsend responded strongly, winning the last three games to secure her advancement. She will next face world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Third seed Jessica Pegula also battled through a challenging match, recovering from a poor start to defeat 31st seed Leylah Fernandez 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 in 2 hours and 11 minutes. This victory keeps Pegula’s hopes alive for a successful tournament finish as the world’s top player, but she will need to clinch her first Grand Slam title to achieve that goal. In the fourth round, she will compete against 36-year-old Sorana Cîrstea.
