New York, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Carlos Alcaraz is feeling optimistic following his return to the US Open after a four-month injury layoff. The Spanish player has advanced to the fourth round, losing only one set in his first three matches.
Alcaraz admitted he was unsure how his body would respond upon returning to the tour. However, he has been pleasantly surprised by his recovery after each match.
“I haven’t experienced this before,” Alcaraz said, as reported by the ATP. “I feel better after every match. It’s like I’ve been competing the whole time. I’m astonished by how well I’m recovering and performing after each match. It doesn’t matter if I’m playing four sets or three; I’m just happy to give my best.”
His results further support a smooth comeback, having lost just one set so far. In the second round, he dropped the first set against Jaime Faria but emphasized that the scoreboard doesn’t necessarily reflect the physical and technical challenges he faced on the court.
“The score may suggest it was easy, but physically, it was very demanding and required a lot of effort,” Alcaraz explained. “I don’t think everything is going smoothly. I felt like I had to earn every point and every game. It’s about staying grounded and focusing on each point while trying to give my best in every situation.”
In the fourth round, Alcaraz is set to face American Tommy Paul.
“He’s truly a talented player, and playing against him is quite challenging,” Alcaraz noted. “He’s dangerous for everyone on tour. The way he plays and hits the ball makes it tough. I’m excited and really looking forward to playing against him again.”
