Colombo, July 23: The India Under-19 cricket team delivered an impressive performance, defeating Sri Lanka by 211 runs in the second unofficial Test match. At the R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka’s second innings fell short as they were all out for 260 while chasing a target of 472 runs.
Sri Lanka’s start in their second innings was not promising. Dimantha Mahavithana returned to the pavilion without scoring, and Avisha Samash managed only 2 runs. Viran Chamuditha failed to capitalize on a good start, scoring 31 runs off 30 balls before getting out. After losing three wickets for just 38 runs, Senuja Vekunagoda and captain Vimath Dinsara steadied the innings, forming a crucial partnership of 98 runs for the fourth wicket.
Senuja faced 52 balls, hitting 9 fours to score 64 runs, while captain Vimath also contributed 64 runs. Kavija Gamage added 36 runs, and Sethemika Seneviratne chipped in with 42 runs. However, the team lost wickets at regular intervals and was eventually bowled out for 260 runs. Rohit Yadav shone with the ball for India, taking 4 wickets, while Chigurupati Venkata claimed 3 wickets.
Earlier, India had scored 411 runs in their first innings. Manal Chauhan starred with a remarkable 150 runs, and Kushagra Ojha contributed 111 runs. In response, Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 148 runs in their first innings, giving India a substantial lead of 263 runs.
In their second innings, India declared after scoring 208 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Rajesh Raichandani scored an unbeaten century (100 not out), and Manal remained not out after scoring a half-century. With this victory, India clinched the two-match Test series 1-0, as the first Test ended in a draw.
