RCB Dominates DC in IPL 2026 Match, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Claims Purple Cap

New Delhi, April 28: The 39th match of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) took place on Monday at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, featuring Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). RCB triumphed over DC, restricting them to just 75 runs, thanks to the lethal bowling from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. RCB chased down the target, scoring 77 runs for the loss of just one wicket in 6.3 overs, winning the match by 9 wickets.

Punjab Kings hold the top position with 13 points from 7 matches. RCB follows closely in second place with 12 points from 8 matches. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals are tied at third and fourth with 10 points each from 8 matches.

Gujarat Titans sit in fifth place with 8 points from 8 matches, while Chennai Super Kings have 6 points from 8 matches, placing them sixth. Delhi Capitals are seventh with 6 points from 8 matches, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders in eighth with 5 points from 8 matches. Mumbai Indians are ninth with 4 points from 7 matches, and Lucknow Super Giants round out the table in tenth place with 4 points from 8 matches.

Despite several teams having the same points, their rankings differ due to net run rate.

There was no change in the Orange Cap standings after the match. Abhishek Sharma retains the Orange Cap, having scored 380 runs in 8 matches.

The Purple Cap has now been claimed by RCB’s experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He delivered a stunning performance against DC, taking 3 wickets for just 5 runs in 3 overs. Bhuvneshwar has now taken 14 wickets in 8 matches.

In the match, RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar initiated the wicket-taking spree by bowling out Sahil Parekh on the second ball of the innings. DC struggled throughout, collapsing to 75 runs in 16.3 overs. Abhishek Porel, who came in as an impact player, managed to score 30 runs, preventing a more disastrous outcome.

Bhuvneshwar’s figures were impressive, with 3 wickets for 5 runs in 3 overs, while Hazlewood contributed with 4 wickets for 12 runs in 3.3 overs. Rasikh Salam, Suyash Sharma, and Krunal Pandya each took one wicket.

RCB chased down the target in just 6.3 overs, scoring 77 runs for the loss of one wicket. The only wicket to fall was that of Jacob Bethel, who scored 20 runs off 11 balls. Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal remained unbeaten, scoring 23 runs off 15 balls and 34 runs off 13 balls, respectively. Hazlewood was named Player of the Match.
