
New Delhi, July 1: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Ravi Shankar as its new Executive Director, effective July 1, 2026. The central bank announced this appointment through an official statement.
Prior to this promotion, Ravi Shankar served as the Advisor-in-Charge of the Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM) at RBI.
According to the RBI, Ravi Shankar is an experienced central banking statistician with over three decades of experience at the Reserve Bank. Throughout his extensive career, he has worked in critical areas such as corporate and banking statistics, the government securities market, settlement systems, loan management, and various economic surveys.
In addition, he has been a member of several important committees and working groups related to macroeconomic statistics and policy matters.
The central bank noted that as Executive Director, Ravi Shankar will oversee the Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM), the same department he previously led as Advisor-in-Charge.
RBI expressed optimism that his extensive experience and technical expertise will strengthen the department’s operations.
Ravi Shankar holds a Master’s degree in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He also completed a diploma in Development Policy and Planning from the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) in Delhi. Additionally, he is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF).
