New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad launched a strong attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following his statements after a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu. Prasad accused Gandhi of making false claims and questioned his conduct as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Speaking to reporters in Patna, Prasad stated, “Rahul Gandhi is skilled at lying. Please do not involve the President in this matter. It is inappropriate, and the party has clearly denied these allegations. There is no truth to them.” He highlighted the Congress party’s recent electoral failures, noting, “They continuously shout about ‘vote theft’ yet have faced significant defeats. Mamata Banerjee lost badly in the West Bengal by-elections, even in Murshidabad, which has a 70 percent Muslim population, and they also lost a Lok Sabha seat in Assam.”
Prasad suggested that the opposition should refrain from their disruptive tactics, saying, “People will not vote for them, yet they continue to make noise. My advice is that their behavior, sitting on the streets of Delhi, does not befit a leader of the opposition.”
His comments followed a meeting between Gandhi and a delegation of leaders from the ‘India’ bloc and President Murmu, where they expressed concerns about alleged irregularities in the electoral process and demanded action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
After the meeting, Gandhi expressed his surprise that the President did not deny the allegations, although she did request evidence. He stated, “We have all the evidence of how the elections were stolen. The entire country has witnessed it.”
The President’s office has not issued any official statement regarding the discussions. Gandhi also announced plans to approach the Supreme Court to address the opposition’s concerns about the electoral process.
He mentioned, “We will go to the Supreme Court on Monday and present a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India.” Prior to the meeting, Gandhi led a march from Parliament to the President’s residence with a group of opposition MPs and party leaders, followed by a smaller delegation meeting with the President to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The memorandum submitted by the opposition included four main demands: the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, the repeal of a 2023 law granting lifetime protection to the Chief Election Commissioner and election commissioners, an immediate halt to the SIR process, and the reinstatement of the names of 13.3 crore voters allegedly removed from the electoral rolls. Another demand was to reintroduce paper ballot systems in all elections, along with a call to annul all assembly elections over the past two years that presented solid evidence of ‘vote theft.’
The ‘India’ bloc has repeatedly accused the electoral process of being compromised, while the BJP has dismissed these allegations.
