Congress Leader Hussain Dalwai Urges CM Fadnavis to Release Detained Protesters Ahead of Delhi March

Mumbai, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Senior Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging him to intervene in the detention of activists who were prevented from participating in a protest march in New Delhi. Dalwai’s letter highlights reports of police detaining individuals in Mumbai to stop them from joining the demonstration.

On October 10, various student organizations and the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) planned a peaceful march in New Delhi to demand transparency in the electoral process. Many activists from Maharashtra intended to travel to the capital for this democratic movement. However, Dalwai expressed his dismay over the alleged heavy-handed tactics employed by police, who reportedly detained these activists at their homes in Mumbai.

Additionally, reports have emerged of other social workers and students being stopped and detained at different railway stations while en route to Delhi.

Dalwai emphasized that the Indian Constitution grants citizens the fundamental right to peaceful protest and travel in support of their demands. He criticized the treatment of senior social activists and youths in Maharashtra, describing it as a violation of freedom of expression and democratic rights.

In his letter, Dalwai appealed to Fadnavis, who serves as both Chief Minister and Home Minister, to address the situation promptly. He called for immediate action against what he termed the oppressive actions of the police and requested that the administration ensure the timely and respectful release of all detained activists and students across the country.
