Congress Leader Aradhana Mishra Defends Right to Protest Amidst Political Tensions

Lucknow, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : In Lucknow, Aradhana Mishra, the president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, responded to the recent protests by the ‘Cockroach Party’ at Jantar Mantar and Rahul Gandhi‘s ‘Students’ Echo’ campaign. She took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its handling of dissent.

Mishra asserted, “Our Constitution grants every political party and organization the right to protest peacefully. It is the moral responsibility of political entities to voice their opinions and hold the government accountable for its flawed policies. Preventing peaceful demonstrations is against the spirit of democracy. Today, however, trains have been canceled, vehicles are being stopped at tolls, and people are being detained.”

She also mentioned Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming event in Chennai, stating, “All our senior leaders will participate in this pre-scheduled program.”

Regarding a meeting with the president of the Indi Alliance, Mishra congratulated the delegation members who met with him. She expressed optimism about the positive outcomes of their discussions, as shared by Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and other MPs. “I believe this meeting will positively impact our fight to safeguard democracy,” she added.

On the demand for elections via ballot paper raised by Kharge, Mishra reiterated Congress’s long-standing stance. “We have consistently called for ballot paper elections due to widespread irregularities caused by EVMs and SIRs,” she stated.

In response to BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj’s comments about the neglect of the Lodhi community, Mishra noted, “BJP legislators and MPs are acting against their party’s policies. This will be reflected in the 2027 elections. There is turmoil within the BJP and NDA; they do not desire democracy in the party or the nation.”
