Ramdas Athawale Calls for Sonia Gandhi to Apologize for Vande Mataram Controversy

Nagpur, August 17: Central Minister Ramdas Athawale has responded to the ongoing controversy surrounding ‘Vande Mataram‘ and the term ‘intellectual Naxal.’ In a recent conversation, Athawale emphasized that Sonia Gandhi, as a responsible leader and former president of the Congress party, should apologize for her remarks regarding ‘Vande Mataram.’

He stated, “August 15 is a day of pride and honor for us. The slogan ‘Vande Mataram’ played a significant role in our struggle for independence, rallying people against British rule.”

Athawale condemned any disrespect towards ‘Vande Mataram,’ asserting that Gandhi’s comments have not only disrespected the Congress party but also the nation as a whole. He insisted that such disrespect is unacceptable.

Regarding the issue of ‘intellectual Naxals,’ Athawale noted that dissent is a part of democracy. He reiterated Prime Minister Modi’s statement about having brought 99% of Naxalites into the mainstream. “Baba Saheb taught us that all movements should be peaceful, and we should not promote Naxalite movements,” he added.

He concluded by stating that those who gain a majority should be in power. “If the public supports us, we will govern; if not, we will sit in opposition. However, we must not deceive democracy or Baba Saheb’s Constitution. Therefore, we must also eliminate ‘intellectual Naxalism’ and work together for the nation.”
