Ambala, April 18: Haryana government minister Anil Vij has criticized opposition parties following the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament. He stated that male members of the opposition are intimidated by women’s empowerment, leading to the bill’s collapse.
Vij emphasized that the entire nation supported the bill, which aimed to provide reservation for women. It also included provisions for delimitation.
He pointed out that the number of Lok Sabha seats has remained unchanged since 1976, despite the population increasing from 560 million to 1.45 billion. There are 172 constituencies where the population exceeds 2 million. Addressing the issues of such a large population is unfeasible for a single MP.
The minister accused the opposition of sabotaging these crucial initiatives for public welfare.
Central Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar added that the events in the Lok Sabha were not only unfortunate but also an injustice to half of the country’s population. The Nari Shakti Vandan Act was intended to grant women their rightful 33% representation. He asserted that this disrespect towards women’s power will not be forgotten. It will resonate beyond the walls of Parliament and reach every citizen. The opposition must realize that women’s anger has transformed into a force that will respond in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and beyond.
BJP leader Dr. Archana Gupta remarked that today, not just a proposal was defeated in Parliament, but the foundation of women’s trust was shaken. This silence will not last long. Women’s empowerment will respond, and it will be a powerful response.
