
Bhopal, April 19: Bhagwandas Raikwar, a celebrated artist who brought recognition to Bundeli martial arts, sadly passed away on Saturday during treatment. He had been unwell for several days and was receiving care at a private hospital in Bhopal.
According to reports, Bhagwandas Raikwar was honored with the Padma Shri award for his significant contributions to martial arts, as announced by the central government for the year 2026. This prestigious award was specifically given to him for his efforts in preserving and promoting the traditional art of Bundeli martial arts.
Throughout his life, Raikwar dedicated himself to the conservation and promotion of Bundelkhand’s traditional martial arts. He not only kept this ancient art alive but also played a crucial role in passing it on to the younger generation. His efforts earned Bundeli martial arts national recognition.
The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the art community and the Bundelkhand region. Artists, social organizations, and art enthusiasts have expressed their deep sorrow, paying heartfelt tributes to him.
Madhya Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla expressed his condolences over Raikwar’s demise.
