Jaipur, May 1: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds in parts of Rajasthan from May 1 to May 6. This alert comes in light of recent hailstorms in the region. Rain is expected in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota, Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Udaipur divisions during this period.
Additionally, a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for several districts, including Ajmer, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Deeg, Dholpur, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar, Tonk, Barmer, Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Phalodi, and Sri Ganganagar. This alert warns of thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds of 40-50 km/h.
In the past two days, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and hail has been reported in Jhalawar districts, leading to a drop in temperatures and temporary relief from the heat. However, this sudden weather change has raised concerns among farmers regarding potential crop damage.
Officials indicated that due to the influence of an active western disturbance, temperatures are expected to remain around normal for the first half of May. While daytime weather will be hot, evenings may see cloud cover and light rain on most days. This warning is likely to remain in effect until May 4.
Despite the rain in several areas, Thursday saw high daytime temperatures. Bikaner, Churu, and Phalodi recorded temperatures between 42°C and 43°C, while Barmer and Jaisalmer reached up to 44°C. The capital, Jaipur, experienced extreme heat with a maximum temperature of 40.8°C. Dust storms and light drizzle occurred in the evening, and similar conditions are expected over the next 2-3 days.
In Udaipur, temperatures hovered around 40°C for the second consecutive day, with minimum temperatures near 25°C. Ajmer recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8°C. After a day of intense heat, evening winds provided some relief.
In Alwar, cloud cover, strong winds, and light rain brought some respite after a hot start to the day. Jodhpur’s temperature remained around 40.5°C, maintaining a hot weather pattern.
In addition, Sikar recorded a temperature of 39°C, with afternoon winds and light rain offering some relief. Kota experienced a maximum temperature of 40°C and a minimum of 21.4°C, with light rain in the evening.
According to the Jaipur Meteorological Center, another western disturbance is expected to activate in the next 4-5 days, potentially bringing dust storms and light rain across the state, providing relief from the heat.
