Jaipur, May 18: Rajasthan is set to enhance its transport connectivity with the launch of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, linking it to New Delhi. Following an agreement between the Rajasthan and Haryana governments, Rajasthan will now be part of the ‘Namo Bharat’ network. This initiative will see trains operating between Delhi and Alwar.
The corridor will commence from the Sarai Kale Khan station in New Delhi, passing through Munirka, Aerocity, Gurugram, and Bawal, ultimately reaching Khairthal and Alwar. Additionally, another section will be developed from SNB through Neemrana and Behror to Sotanala, as confirmed by officials from the Chief Minister’s office in Rajasthan.
This project is expected to directly benefit key industrial centers in the National Capital Region (NCR), particularly in Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi and Neemrana. It aims to create new opportunities for investment, employment, and economic growth.
Under the integrated transport plan for the NCR, efforts are underway to connect major cities with a modern high-speed transport network. The first phase includes the development of corridors such as Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar, and Delhi-Panipat-Karnal.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor has already been inaugurated. The proposed network will span a total of 196 kilometers, featuring 22 major stations. In Rajasthan, this project will include a 91-kilometer track with six proposed stations.
The corridor will boast state-of-the-art infrastructure, with high-speed trains capable of reaching speeds of 160 kilometers per hour. All three ‘Namo Bharat’ corridors are being developed as an interoperable network, allowing passengers to travel seamlessly across different routes.
Sarai Kale Khan station in Delhi will be developed as a main interchange hub, connecting all corridors. RRTS trains will operate on dedicated elevated corridors, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted journey, free from road traffic. This network will also connect with railway stations, interstate bus terminals, airports, and the Delhi Metro, providing passengers with multi-modal connectivity.
The Regional Rapid Transit System is regarded as the next generation of public transport for the NCR. Its trains can operate at nearly three times the speed of traditional metro services. While metros primarily serve intra-city travel, the RRTS aims to connect neighboring cities quickly, safely, and efficiently.
The Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Alwar corridor, traversing major industrial areas in Haryana and Rajasthan, will strengthen regional connectivity and provide a new direction for industrial development and infrastructure expansion in Rajasthan.
