Rajasthan Issues Over 49,000 Licences for Legal Opium Cultivation

Daily Kiran Udaipur: The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) office in Kota has clarified the status of legal opium farming in Rajasthan for the 2025-26 crop year. A total of 49,140 licences have been issued across seven districts in the state. These licences have been granted to farmers in Baran, Kota, Jhalawar, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, and Udaipur districts.

According to the Deputy Narcotics Commissioner of CNB, Kota, out of the total licences issued, 34,776 are for opium gum production, while the remaining 14,364 licences are for the cultivation of uncut opium poppy straw (post doda) production.

Land Area Specified Per Licence

The Narcotics Department has specified the land area allowed for opium cultivation under each licence. For opium gum production, each licence permits cultivation on 10 ares (0.10 hectares or 1,000 square metres) of land. For the production of uncut poppy straw, the permitted area is 5 ares (0.05 hectares or 500 square metres) per licence.

Inspection and Measurement Teams Deployed

To ensure strict compliance with cultivation standards, 47 inspection teams have been formed for monitoring, inspecting, and accurately measuring the opium fields. Officers and staff from the Central Narcotics Bureau visit the farms of each licensed farmer to conduct field inspections and measurements.

The Deputy Narcotics Commissioner of Kota has directed all departmental officials and employees to carry out this work with full transparency, fairness, and integrity. He warned that any complaints related to irregularities or corruption against any staff member will not be tolerated, and strict disciplinary action will be taken.

For reporting any misconduct, irregularities, or grievances related to opium cultivation, the public can contact the department via email at dnc-kota@cbn.nic.in or call the control room at 0744-2438328.
