Udaipur, September 10, 2026: Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a six-year transport agreement with MFL India Limited to include 30 electric trucks in its transportation network from mines to smelters. The initiative aims to make the company’s transport system more environment-friendly and reduce carbon emissions.
The agreement can be extended by another two years. Under the agreement, electric trucks will gradually replace conventional diesel trucks for transporting zinc and lead concentrates from the Rampura Agucha mine in Rajasthan to smelters.
MFL India Limited will establish and operate dedicated EV charging stations for the electric trucks. This will help create a reliable electric transport infrastructure along the industrial route.
Hindustan Zinc CEO and Whole-time Director Amarendu Prakash said the future of the mining industry would be defined not only by the metals it produces but also by how responsibly and efficiently they are produced and transported.
He said the deployment of electric trucks for concentrate transportation was another important step in this direction. According to him, efforts to reduce carbon emissions can also help improve competitiveness and support the development of partners and local communities.
Hindustan Zinc is working with MFL on a phased transition towards cleaner transportation, keeping in mind the need for greater investment in new technologies such as EVs and LNG vehicles. The participation of local drivers will also be ensured during the process.
MFL India Limited Chairman and Managing Director Anil Thukral said the company was proud to work with Hindustan Zinc to promote clean industrial logistics. He said the initiative demonstrated that electric mobility can be successfully adopted across large transportation networks with the right charging infrastructure and operational planning.
He added that the two companies were developing a sustainable and environment-friendly logistics model that would provide environmental benefits along with long-term business value.
232 Green Logistics Vehicles
During the financial year 2025-26, Hindustan Zinc added 42 new electric vehicles for material transportation across its operations. With this, the company’s green logistics fleet reached 232 vehicles, comprising 52 electric vehicles and 180 LNG vehicles.
The company had earlier taken a leading role in introducing battery-based electric vehicles for underground mining operations at the Sindesar Khurd mine in Rajpura Dariba, Rajasthan. It has since increased the use of clean-fuel-based vehicles for mining equipment, material transportation and employee movement.
The latest initiative is part of Hindustan Zinc’s target to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 or earlier. The company has increased the share of renewable energy in its energy mix to around 22 per cent and is continuously expanding the use of renewable energy, electrification, energy efficiency and low-carbon technologies across its operations and value chain.
