Udaipur, September 17, 2026: Hindustan Zinc Limited has highlighted the important role of its young engineers in shaping the future of India’s metal and mining industry on the occasion of Engineers’ Day.

Currently, 57.8 per cent of the company’s officers have an engineering background, while 76 per cent of its young professionals are from core engineering fields. Around 10 per cent of the company’s leadership professionals are below 35 years of age.

The new generation of engineers is contributing to the modernisation of the metal and mining industry through technical knowledge, digital skills, innovation and a focus on sustainable development.

Traditionally, the metal and mining sector has been associated with machinery, processes and operational expertise. However, young engineers are now playing an important role in reshaping the industry through technologies such as remote blasting, tele-remote machine operation, real-time monitoring systems, automated processes and digital control rooms.

1,551 Officers Have Engineering Background

Of Hindustan Zinc’s total workforce of 2,685 officers, 1,551 have an engineering background. Women account for 20.5 per cent of the company’s officers and are working across areas including mining, metallurgy, mechanical, electrical and environmental engineering.

The company is also focusing on bringing young talent into the organisation. During the financial year 2025-26, it conducted 335 campus hires, adding new technical talent and ideas to the organisation.

Hindustan Zinc CEO and Whole-time Director Amarendu Prakash said engineers today are entering an industry that is changing rapidly.

He said young engineers at Hindustan Zinc are bringing new ideas and perspectives to solve complex challenges. He added that the company’s responsibility is to provide an environment where their curiosity, technical capabilities and ambition can translate into innovation and help strengthen the future of the metal and mining industry.

Focus on Young Talent and Innovation

More than 62 per cent of Hindustan Zinc’s employees are below 35 years of age, while the company’s gender diversity ratio stands at 26.3 per cent.

The company is developing a workplace where young talent gets responsibility, learning opportunities and freedom to innovate. Amid increasing digitalisation and automation, it is also promoting a startup-like work culture within a large industrial environment, enabling employees to develop better solutions through new ideas.

Apart from officers, more than 423 non-officer employees also strengthen the company’s engineering ecosystem. They are directly and indirectly involved in important engineering processes across mines and smelters. Their contribution in handling heavy machinery and complex industrial equipment forms an important part of the company’s operations.

Employee-First Policies

Hindustan Zinc’s ‘Employee First’ policy provides equal opportunities and career development at different stages of employees’ lives.

The company has provided women opportunities across different shifts and important operational roles. It has also introduced policies covering flexible working hours, spouse hiring, up to one year of leave for childcare, and a focus on mental and physical well-being.

Employees are also provided opportunities to change roles across different business functions according to their interests and capabilities.
