Jaipur, February 23: In a dramatic turn of events on Monday, Congress legislators staged a walkout during Zero Hour in the Rajasthan Assembly, protesting the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Bikaner. This incident led to significant uproar within the house. Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani made pointed remarks during the session.
The walkout followed a heated debate between Congress and BJP lawmakers. Congress MLA Dungaram Ghedar raised the issue during Zero Hour, demanding action against the culprits.
State Home Minister Jawahar Singh Bedham confirmed that a police investigation is ongoing. He stated that the minor’s body is currently in the mortuary and that senior police officials are present at the scene. He assured that the perpetrators would be apprehended soon.
Opposition leader Tikaram Julie questioned the delay in arrests, highlighting the rising crimes against girls. Meanwhile, the government’s Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg accused the opposition of politicizing the issue. Minister Bedham dismissed this as “cheap politics,” while Julie countered that asking when the killers would be arrested is not political.
Following the intense debate, opposition leaders walked out, with Congress MLA Manish Yadav initially called for a point of order but later returned to speak, prompting a stern warning from Devnani.
Speaker Vasudev Devnani remarked, “You cannot be on both sides—walking out and speaking at the same time. This will not be tolerated.” When a BJP MLA interrupted him, Devnani expressed frustration, stating, “If I have spoken, why are you speaking? Are you greater than me? If so, come and sit in my place. The ruling party should cooperate, and the opposition should also cooperate.”
The tragic case involves a 13-year-old girl found dead under suspicious circumstances in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Local residents protested, alleging that the minor was raped.
The girl was preparing for her Class 8 exams. When she failed to arrive at school, the administration notified her parents, leading to a search. Her body was later discovered near a forested area.
Police reported that they are examining technical evidence and continue to investigate all aspects of the case.
