Rain Likely in Southern States; Fishermen Advised to Avoid Sea

Chennai: The Chennai Meteorological Department has reported the formation of a low-pressure system near the Kerala coast in the southeastern Arabian Sea. This system is expected to influence the weather in some parts of southern India in the coming days.

According to the weather department, light to moderate rainfall is likely at one or two places in southern districts on Tuesday. Particularly, parts of southern Tamil Nadu and districts along the Western Ghats may experience light rain. Other regions are expected to remain mostly dry.

The department further stated that from January 28 to 30, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to see dry weather. However, changes in weather conditions are anticipated after this period.

On January 31 and February 1, due to the impact of the low-pressure system, some areas in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may receive light to moderate rainfall.

Along with rainfall, the system is expected to bring strong surface winds over the sea. On Tuesday and Wednesday, coastal areas of southern Tamil Nadu, Mannar Gulf, and the Comorin Sea may witness rough weather with winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. Similar windy conditions are expected over the Comorin Sea on January 29 and 30 as well.

In view of these conditions, the meteorological department has issued advisories for fishermen. They have been cautioned not to venture into the sea in affected areas during the advised days, as rough sea conditions and strong winds pose significant risks to life and property.

Weather officials have urged the public, especially residents of coastal and hilly regions, to stay alert and follow official weather updates closely.

While no widespread heavy rainfall is expected at this time, intermittent showers and strong winds could cause some inconvenience, particularly in vulnerable areas.

The Regional Meteorological Centre is closely monitoring the development of the low-pressure system and has assured that further advisories will be issued if there are major changes in weather patterns. People are requested to rely on official forecasts and warnings and take necessary precautions during periods of strong winds and adverse weather.
