Kolkata, September 17 (Patrika English News): Cloudy skies covered Kolkata and several parts of South Bengal on Wednesday morning, with the Meteorological Department forecasting light to moderate rain throughout the day. The showers are likely to affect Vishwakarma Puja celebrations across the state.

According to officials, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has now extended into Jharkhand, bringing in significant moisture across West Bengal. Its impact is expected to be more pronounced in the western districts, where thunderstorms with rain and wind speeds of 30–40 kmph may occur.
In Kolkata and all districts of Gangetic South Bengal, light to moderate rainfall is expected on Wednesday. While no heavy rainfall warning has been issued, the sky will remain cloudy, keeping daytime temperatures slightly lower, though night temperatures will remain unchanged. Intermittent light showers are likely to continue.
The Met office added that rainfall activity is likely to ease from Thursday and remain subdued till Saturday. However, on Sunday (Mahalaya), light to moderate rain is again expected. Once the rain stops, people may have to deal with increased humidity and sticky heat.
In North Bengal, rainfall activity will continue till Friday. Districts including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar are likely to receive heavy rainfall with thunderstorms starting Wednesday, while other northern areas will see light to moderate showers at intervals.
