Nishin, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : All four quarterfinal matches at the Asian Games 2026 were washed out due to heavy rain in Nishin on September 29. As a result, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan progressed to the semifinals based on their higher rankings.
Originally scheduled for Monday at the Korogi Sports Park, the first quarterfinal was set to feature Pakistan against Hong Kong, while the second was to see India face Afghanistan. Both matches were called off without a toss due to the weather.
On Tuesday, the third and fourth quarterfinals were also slated to take place at the same venue. The third match was to be contested between Sri Lanka and Nepal, with the fourth featuring Bangladesh against Malaysia. Unfortunately, both of these matches also fell victim to the rain and were canceled without any play.
With the quarterfinals now concluded, the semifinal lineup is clear. The first semifinal will take place on Thursday, October 1, between Bangladesh and Pakistan, starting at 5:30 AM Indian time. The second semifinal will follow the same day, featuring Sri Lanka and India at 10:30 AM.
All matches are set to be held at the Korogi Sports Park in Nishin. There is growing concern among teams, organizers, and cricket fans regarding the potential for further rain disruptions in the semifinals, similar to the quarterfinals. If the semifinals are also affected, it would pose significant challenges for the tournament.
Additionally, the final and the match for third place will also be hosted at the Korogi Sports Park.
