Lovlina Borgohain Advances to Finals at 2026 Asian Games with Thrilling Victory

Okazaki, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has reached the finals of the 2026 Asian Games, showcasing her skill in a gripping semifinal match. Competing in the 75-kilogram category, she triumphed over Kazakhstan’s Natalia Bogdanova with a split decision of 3-2.

This victory guarantees Lovlina at least a silver medal, but hopes are high for gold as she becomes the first Indian woman to reach the finals in consecutive Asian Games. Her performance in the semifinal demonstrated resilience, particularly after a shaky start.

In the first round, Lovlina struggled to find her rhythm, losing 2-3. However, she adjusted her strategy in the following rounds, which paid off. Lovlina claimed both the second and third rounds, landing powerful punches that put Bogdanova on the defensive. In the second round, all five judges awarded her 10 points, while in the third round, two judges scored her 10 and three gave her 9 points.

In contrast, fellow Indian boxer Priya Ghanghas had to settle for a bronze medal after losing 1-4 in her semifinal against China’s Yang Chengyu. Priya started aggressively but struggled to counter Yang’s strong defense.

On the men’s side, Ankush Panghal has advanced to the finals in the 80-kilogram category. Meanwhile, Narendra secured a bronze medal after losing his semifinal match decisively 0-5 to Orlabe. In the women’s 65-kilogram category, Parveen Hooda has also reached the finals, defeating China’s Li Shu 5-0 in her semifinal bout.
