Indian Archery Team Aims for Gold Glory at Asian Games 2026

Nagoya, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya has been a remarkable day for India, with the archery team clinching two gold medals on Wednesday. Coach Jivanajot Singh expressed his delight over the team’s performance and projected an optimistic outlook, hoping for a total of nine to ten medals in the competition.

Reflecting on the team’s golden success, Singh stated, “Our performance has been excellent so far. We still have matches ahead. We expect to bring home nine to ten medals, just as we did in the previous Asian Games where we secured nine medals. We won’t settle for less.” He credited the Indian government for providing outstanding facilities in both India and Japan, which allowed athletes to perform without worry. Singh also thanked the citizens of India for their unwavering support before and during the matches.

The Indian women’s compound archery team triumphed on Wednesday at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, defeating China with a score of 238-234 to win gold. The team comprised Chikitha Taniparthi, Prithika Pradeep, and Jyoti Surekha Vennam.

Additionally, the duo of Rajesh Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi delivered an impressive performance in the mixed compound event. They overcame South Korea in a thrilling shoot-off after finishing the final tied at 157-157, securing another gold medal. This victory also earned India a quota spot for the compound mixed team event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, marking its debut in the Olympic Games.

India previously achieved a record nine medals at the Hangzhou 2023 Games, including five golds, two silvers, and two bronzes. Coach Jivanajot Singh is determined to match or surpass that performance.
