Rahul Gandhi Receives Interim Relief from Supreme Court in Asset Case

New Delhi, August 17: Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has secured interim relief from the Supreme Court concerning allegations of disproportionate assets. The Supreme Court has temporarily halted the upcoming hearing scheduled for August 20 at the Allahabad High Court.

According to reports, the Supreme Court issued notices to the complainant, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), among other relevant parties, in response to Gandhi’s petition.

Rahul Gandhi challenged an order from the Allahabad High Court that permitted the CBI and ED to take appropriate legal action regarding the allegations of disproportionate assets against him. The Supreme Court instructed both investigative agencies and other officials not to submit any reports in this matter to the Allahabad High Court for the time being.

Additionally, the Supreme Court directed the Allahabad High Court to postpone the proposed hearing on August 20 until the apex court conducts further proceedings in the case. This interim arrangement is in place, and a final decision will be made in subsequent hearings.

Following the Supreme Court’s order, no reports related to the investigation will be filed in the Allahabad High Court, and the hearing on August 20 has been postponed. The Supreme Court will now hear Rahul Gandhi’s petition and determine the next steps after receiving responses from the involved parties.

This case stems from a complaint filed by S. Vignesh Shishir, a BJP worker from Karnataka, who alleged that Rahul Gandhi possesses assets exceeding his declared income, warranting an investigation.

In May, the Allahabad High Court stated that if a complaint against Rahul Gandhi has been received and serious allegations have been made, the veracity of those allegations should be investigated. The High Court affirmed that the CBI or ED are free to take appropriate action under the law and requested updates on the progress of the investigation.
