Chennai, March 23: Actor-politician R. Sarathkumar met with Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran on Monday, formally requesting an organizational role within the party. This meeting came just a day after Sarathkumar publicly expressed dissatisfaction over being sidelined from significant responsibilities.
The meeting took place at Nagendran’s residence in T. Nagar and is significant as the BJP ramps up preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Internal discussions are ongoing to strengthen the party’s structure, making Sarathkumar’s move an attempt to clarify his position within the state unit.
Two years ago, Sarathkumar merged his All India Samathuva Makkal Kachi (AISMK) with the BJP. This merger was viewed as a strategic step to enhance the party’s social and political reach, particularly among specific communities where Sarathkumar holds influence.
After the meeting with Nainar Nagendran, Sarathkumar stated that he formally presented his concerns in writing to the party and expressed satisfaction with the response from the state leadership. He mentioned that Nagendran acknowledged the issues raised and assured him that his demands would be taken seriously.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sarathkumar said, “We have submitted our request in writing to the state president. He acknowledged that the demands are reasonable and assured that they will be considered.”
He emphasized that his feelings stemmed from a sense of hurt rather than disagreement with the party leadership. Reaffirming his commitment to the BJP, Sarathkumar expressed optimism that a positive resolution would emerge soon.
“I have already expressed my concerns. I believe a solution will be found. After our discussions, I am satisfied and hopeful about the outcome,” he added.
When asked about meeting with Union Minister and BJP’s Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal, Sarathkumar mentioned that he would be traveling to Coimbatore and would meet him if called upon.
Party sources indicated that consultations are ongoing, and decisions regarding his role are likely to be made in due course as part of a broader organizational strategy.
