Jalpaiguri, March 25: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rallied support with the slogan, “No matter how many attacks you make, Bengal will prevail.” Speaking at a public meeting in Jalpaiguri, she launched a fierce attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of various electoral malpractices, including voter suppression through the SIR system.
During her address, Banerjee claimed that the names of genuine voters have been removed from the electoral rolls, raising concerns about the fairness and transparency of the election process. She also highlighted issues related to identity and citizenship, stating, “After living here for so long, you are calling us foreign citizens. You say we must prove our citizenship. First, you prove that you are a citizen of this country before challenging others.”
Banerjee further alleged that the BJP aims to dismantle the state of Bengal, asserting that numerous plans have been devised for this purpose. Addressing the public, she said, “You will be merged with Bihar. I have stopped the division of North Bengal. This was revealed on social media a few days ago, and I raised my voice against it that very day. Remember, I have fought for people’s rights from the streets to the Supreme Court.”
Amidst her speech, she reiterated the rallying cry, “No matter how many attacks you make, Bengal will prevail.” She noted, “The counting of votes is on the 4th. That’s why it is said, 1, 2, 3, 4, the BJP will lose.”
Banerjee also criticized the BJP over rising petrol prices and inflation, stating, “Petrol prices have increased again. The cost of goods is rising. I have nothing in my hands. Everything has been taken from me. The only thing I have is the people. The BJP is a party of destruction.”
