Chandigarh, June 4: The Punjab Police has achieved a significant breakthrough against a cross-border terrorist network. The state’s Director General of Police (DGP) announced that the Special Operations Cell (SOC) of Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar has arrested two suspects who were in contact with terrorists operating from abroad.
In a post on the Punjab DGP’s official ‘X’ handle, it was revealed, “During the operation, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered, thwarting a sinister plot to target critical public infrastructure in SAS Nagar. This swift and timely action has potentially averted a catastrophic threat to public safety.”
The post further stated, “An investigation is ongoing to uncover the entire terrorist network, including handlers, associates, and all links involved in this conspiracy. The Punjab Police is fully committed to dismantling the terrorist network, eradicating organized crime, and ensuring peace and public safety throughout the state.”
Earlier, the Amritsar Police had also disrupted an interstate arms and drug trafficking module, arresting two suspects. They seized 2.225 kilograms of heroin, six sophisticated pistols, and 12 live cartridges from their possession.
According to police officials, this operation was conducted based on intelligence information. Given the quantity of heroin and weapons recovered, it is believed that this network is part of a larger gang supplying drugs and illegal arms in Punjab. The police are now investigating other members of this module and its interstate and cross-border connections.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar reported that initial investigations revealed the suspects were in direct contact with active traffickers across the border. They received shipments of heroin through a network linked to Pakistan, which was then distributed to various criminal elements in Punjab. He noted that the aim of this network was to increase the supply of narcotics in the state and promote criminal activities.
