Punjab Police Arrest Suspect for Bomb Threats to Schools and Secretariat

Chandigarh, June 15: The Chandigarh Police have successfully resolved cases involving false bomb threats to several educational institutions and the Punjab Civil Secretariat.

Following investigations by Police Stations 17 and 03, Saurabh Biswas, a 30-year-old resident of West Bengal, was arrested. On January 28, 2026, bomb threats were emailed to Tender Heart School, GMSSS Sector-16, GMSSS Sector-35, and GMSSS Sector-19. Consequently, an FIR was registered under sections 113(3), 62, and 351(4) of the Indian Penal Code and section 66(F) of the IT Act at Police Station 17.

Additionally, on January 29, a threatening email was sent to the Punjab Civil Secretariat, prompting another FIR under section 351(4) of the IPC and section 66(F) of the IT Act at Police Station 3, Chandigarh.

Investigations based on the technical analysis of the emails led to the identification of the suspect, Saurabh Biswas, who had previously crossed the border from Bangladesh. He had been arrested earlier by the Cyber Crime Police Station in Ahmedabad for a similar fake threat case. Following this, Chandigarh Police obtained a production warrant and arrested him on June 2. Police remands have been secured for further investigation by Police Stations 3 and 17.

The investigation revealed that Saurabh is a technically skilled freelancer who provided online web design and animation services. He was involved in buying and selling Gmail accounts through various Facebook pages, having acquired approximately 300 Gmail accounts, 219 of which were sold to an individual based in Bangladesh. The investigation is ongoing to uncover additional links.

In addition to the cases registered in Chandigarh, Saurabh has been implicated in several other incidents, with FIRs filed against him at the Civil Lines Police Station, the Special Cell Police Station, and the Cyber Police Station in Dwarka, Delhi.
