Uttarkashi, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : Preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in 2027 are underway in Uttarkashi, where a review meeting was held on Wednesday at the district collectorate. District Magistrate and District Election Officer Prashant Arya led the meeting to discuss the first-level checking (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines available in the district.
Arya announced that, following directives from the Chief Electoral Officer, the FLC of all EVMs and VVPATs will commence on October 5 at the EVM warehouse in the collectorate premises. For this purpose, ten engineers from the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) will be deployed to conduct technical inspections of the machines.
During the meeting, the District Magistrate emphasized the importance of ensuring safety, medical support, cleanliness, drinking water, refreshments, and other necessary arrangements throughout the FLC process. He instructed that adequate police presence, along with the setup of door frame metal detectors (DFMD) and hand-held metal detectors (HHMD), should be ensured, as well as the availability of fire-fighting vehicles.
Arya also directed the relevant officials to complete all preparations in a timely manner, adhering to the standards and guidelines set by the Election Commission. He stressed that the FLC should be conducted with full transparency, fairness, and caution. Daily progress reports of the work are to be submitted regularly to the Chief Electoral Officer.
Present at the meeting were Additional District Magistrate Mukta Mishra, Senior Treasury Officer Ashish Khudlani, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department DC Nautiyal, Executive Engineer of the Rural Construction Department Yogendra Kataria, District Supply Officer Ashish Kumar, and Assistant District Election Officer Rakesh Mohan Rana, among other officials from various departments.
