Kalaburagi, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : Karnataka police are investigating connections between arrested suspect Mamtaaz Mallik and individuals linked to terrorist organizations operating from Pakistan. Mallik, a resident of West Bengal, was apprehended on Sunday in Kalaburagi, northern Karnataka, by investigative agencies.
The Brahmapura police have filed a case against him, looking into his alleged ties to terrorist groups and his involvement in anti-India activities. Police Inspector Sushil Kumar lodged a complaint at the Brahmapura police station, which includes charges related to conspiracy, incitement, and providing assistance to terrorist acts.
One of the sections invoked, Section 197(1), addresses allegations that a group of people may not maintain true loyalty to the Constitution based on religion, race, language, caste, region, or community, potentially threatening India’s sovereignty.
During the investigation, police reportedly discovered that Mallik was in contact with individuals and groups suspected of links to terrorist organizations via WhatsApp and Instagram. He was a member of a WhatsApp group named “Imam Mahdi,” allegedly added by a person identified as Jainul Abdeen, who is believed to be linked to the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Investigators have received information indicating that Abdeen is operating as a commander for the Pakistan-based terror group. Authorities are examining this lead to determine the nature and extent of Mallik’s connections.
Additionally, Mallik was following Instagram pages such as “Kashmir Tiger 313,” “I Love Pakistan, I Love Kashmir,” and “Major Iqbal ISI.” According to police, he engaged with videos and reels related to Pakistan.
Authorities have seized and are analyzing photos and videos from Mallik’s mobile phone to uncover further evidence of his online activities and connections. The investigation remains ongoing as police seek to confirm these leads and ascertain whether Mallik was directly involved in terrorist-related activities.
