Protests Erupt at Patna University During Chief Ministers Event

Patna, March 30: A significant protest erupted at Patna University on Monday during an official event attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, who were inaugurating a new academic building.

As the leaders arrived, a group of students began chanting slogans against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Education Minister Sunil Kumar.

The protesters waved black flags and shouted slogans such as “Go back” and “Down with Nitish Kumar.” Shantanu Shekhar, president of the Patna University Student Union, led the group, creating a chaotic scene.

The intensity of the protest escalated as slogans were also directed against Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha. The students claimed they had not been informed about the event, and they alleged that the Vice-Chancellor was not invited to the inauguration ceremony.

“I am the president of the university, and I will express my concerns on behalf of the students at this occasion,” said Shantanu Shekhar.

The unrest began when Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and Education Minister Sunil Singh had already arrived at the venue, waiting for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary.

The situation quickly became tense, prompting security personnel to intervene. The students continued their demonstration, holding placards expressing dissatisfaction with both the state government and the university administration, which made it challenging for police and security forces to control the crowd.

To restore order at the site, police detained several protesting students. Despite the disruptions, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar proceeded with the inauguration ceremony.

However, the protest highlighted clear discontent among students, raising concerns about dissatisfaction within the academic community.
