New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, tensions escalated on Saturday as police clashed with supporters of the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) in the Jhandewalan area. A bus transporting detained individuals was targeted with stones, prompting a swift police response.
Authorities reported that the incident occurred while officers were transferring some detainees from Jhandewalan. The situation intensified when some protesters attempted to escape police custody and damage the bus. However, law enforcement quickly recaptured them and transported them to a designated location.
In response to the unrest, security around the Jhandewalan Metro Station was significantly tightened. A heavy police presence was deployed to maintain order and prevent further disturbances, leading to traffic restrictions in the area.
On Saturday, police detained over 1,000 protesters in the capital. These individuals were reportedly on their way to participate in a demonstration organized by the CJP against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In light of the planned protest, security measures were heightened across the National Capital Region (NCR). Officials implemented additional arrangements to uphold law and order and prevent protesters from reaching their intended site at Jantar Mantar.
Police had previously canceled the CJP’s protest permit, citing the organizers’ failure to adhere to legal guidelines and commitments made during earlier demonstrations.
Before the protests began, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke, spokesperson Saurabh Das, and Ashutosh Ranka were detained upon arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Additionally, social media influencer Dhruv Rathee was taken into custody at his residence in Gurugram. According to a post on CJP’s Facebook page, around 50 plainclothes officers arrived at Rathee’s home around 8 AM to detain him.
