Rajiv Babbar Honors Victims of 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots, Criticizes Rahul Gandhis Rally

Rajiv Babbar pays tribute to victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and questions the appropriateness of Rahul Gandhis rally on the same day.

New Delhi, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : A special prayer service was held on Saturday at the Shaheed Gurudwara in Tilak Nagar, New Delhi, to honor the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Rajiv Babbar, co-convener of the BJP’s North East committee, attended the event to pay tribute to the innocent lives lost during the violence. He labeled the events of 1984 as a massacre and directed criticism towards the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking to reporters, Babbar described the riots as a dark chapter in India’s history, noting the large number of innocent people killed. He referenced a statement by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had visited Tilak Nagar during the riots. Vajpayee had declared that what occurred was not a riot but a massacre, emphasizing that riots typically involve two sides, whereas the 1984 events were a one-sided slaughter.

Babbar expressed that this day is particularly emotional and sorrowful for families who lost loved ones. He urged everyone to pray that such incidents never happen again, stressing the importance of remembering the victims while also committing to foster harmony and brotherhood in society.

Questioning the timing of Rahul Gandhi’s rally, Babbar stated that November 1 should be reserved for paying homage to the victims, making political movements on this day inappropriate. He also recalled a statement by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, which suggested that when a large tree falls, the earth shakes, using it to criticize Congress leadership in the context of the 1984 riots.

To honor the victims, Babbar announced a silent rally where participants would wear black armbands. The rally will start from Hari Nagar and proceed to Tilak Nagar. He clarified that the aim of the silent march is not to engage in political opposition but to promote peace, harmony, and brotherhood, while also pledging to prevent such violent incidents in the future.
