Tamil Nadu Declares Holiday on November 9 Post-Diwali, Koyambedu Market to Remain Closed

Tamil Nadu announces a holiday on November 9 for a smooth return after Diwali, while Koyambedu vegetable market will close for the day.

Chennai, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday on November 9, the day after Diwali, for all government offices, public sector undertakings, and educational institutions. This decision aims to facilitate the return of individuals who traveled to their hometowns for the festival.

Diwali will be celebrated on November 8 (Sunday) this year. The additional day off allows students, parents, teachers, and government employees more time to return home after celebrating with family.

According to the government order, this holiday applies statewide to all government offices, public sector enterprises, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions.

To compensate for the extra day off, November 28 has been designated as a working day. This change enables those affected by the holiday to plan their return for Monday instead of immediately after the festivities on Sunday.

The arrangement aligns the holiday schedule for families traveling together, making it easier for government employees and students. The compensatory working day falls on a Saturday, so institutions and offices will follow a revised schedule, observing the holiday on November 9 and resuming work at the end of the month.

Additionally, the Koyambedu vegetable market in Chennai will be closed on November 9 due to a decision made by trader associations. This closure was unanimously approved during an advisory meeting led by GT Rajasekharan, president of the Integrated Market Union Federation. It was decided that all vegetable shops will remain open until Diwali to allow customers to complete their shopping before the holiday. The market is set to resume normal operations on Tuesday, November 10.

This closure is limited to the vegetable market on the day following Diwali. Customers and traders are advised to complete their essential purchases in light of the Monday closure.
