Madhya Pradesh Congress Criticizes BJP Over Hardeep Singh Puris Rajya Sabha Nomination
Madhya Pradesh Congress slams BJP for nominating Hardeep Singh Puri for Rajya Sabha, raising concerns over state reputation and Epstein ties.

Bhopal, October 28 (Daily Kiran) : The Madhya Pradesh Congress party has taken aim at the BJP following the nomination of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri for the Rajya Sabha by-election. On October 28, Congress leaders asserted that this decision tarnishes the reputation of Madhya Pradesh and called for accountability regarding Puri’s alleged connections to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
State Congress President Jitu Patwari questioned the BJP’s motives, suggesting that the party is compelled to keep Puri in power. He raised concerns about the implications of this nomination, asking whether the BJP is facing internal weaknesses. “When will the country receive answers regarding the Epstein-related questions surrounding Puri?” Patwari demanded.
Patwari accused the BJP of disrespecting Madhya Pradesh by selecting Puri as their candidate and vowed that Congress would vehemently oppose this move. He stated that the BJP, intoxicated by the power of votes, is openly insulting both the state and the mandate given by its people.
Former Union Minister and ex-President of Madhya Pradesh Congress, Arun Yadav, also criticized the nomination, claiming it brings shame to the state. He linked his criticism to rising concerns about crimes against women and minors in Madhya Pradesh, which currently has the highest number of reported sexual exploitation cases involving minors in the country. “Sending a friend of an international sex offender to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh is a disgrace,” Yadav remarked, highlighting the BJP’s troubling attitude towards women and young girls.
The BJP’s nomination of Puri is aimed at filling the seat left vacant by the resignation of former Union Minister L. Murugan on October 14. Murugan stepped down to focus on strengthening the party in Tamil Nadu. Puri’s term in the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh was set to expire on November 25. The by-election is scheduled for November 12, with members of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly voting for the new representative. The counting of votes will take place later that evening.
In response, Madhya Pradesh BJP President Hemant Khandelwal congratulated Puri on his nomination and expressed best wishes for the upcoming election as decided by the party’s central election committee.
