Mumbai, October 28 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a tax inspector stationed at the Income Tax Office in Scindia House, Mumbai, on charges of accepting a bribe of ₹1.5 million. This operation took place on October 27, following a complaint from a local resident.
According to a statement released by the CBI, the inspector, Subhash Kumar Yadav, who works in the investigation branch of the Department of Direct Taxes, was accused of demanding ₹2 million to close a pending case related to undisclosed assets in the department’s Benami Prohibition Unit. After negotiations, he agreed to accept ₹1.5 million.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI set up a sting operation on October 27 and caught Yadav red-handed while he was receiving the bribe from the complainant. Following his arrest, a search was conducted at Yadav’s premises, where officials recovered incriminating documents and ₹1.1 million in cash.
Yadav was presented in a competent court in Mumbai on Wednesday, where the court remanded him to police custody until October 30.
