Kozhikode, September 26 (Daily Kiran) : Kozhikode, September 26 — Priyanka Gandhi, a Congress MP, visited the home of Vidarsha Vinod Kochalumkal to congratulate her family on the young athlete’s recent achievement. Vidarsha, alongside teammates Tilottama Sen and Aashi Choukse, secured a silver medal in the women’s 50-meter rifle 3-position team event at the 2026 Asian Games held in Japan.
During her visit on Saturday evening, Gandhi was warmly welcomed by Vidarsha’s parents, KD Vinod and Anita. Agriculture Minister T. Siddique also joined the gathering to celebrate the occasion.
The Indian trio performed admirably, finishing with a total of 1,763 points, just behind China, which clinched the gold with 1,773 points. Kazakhstan took home the bronze with 1,754 points.
Throughout the qualification rounds, the Indian team consistently remained in contention for a medal. Their scores across the three shooting positions—kneeling, prone, and standing—demonstrated a strong collective performance.
Tilottama reached the top three after the kneeling and prone shooting stages, ultimately earning a spot in the finals with a personal score of 590 points. Vidarsha, despite a slow start in the kneeling position, rebounded to secure sixth place with 588 points. Aashi contributed significantly to the team’s success, finishing 15th with a score of 585 points.
In individual qualifiers, China’s Han Jiayu led with a score of 594 points, while Tilottama’s 590 points placed her third. Vidarsha’s score was sufficient for sixth place in the individual rankings.
Although the team had already secured their silver medal, attention turned to the individual 50-meter rifle 3-position event, where both Vidarsha and Tilottama unfortunately missed out on medals.
