Priyank Kharge Dismisses Leadership Speculations Amidst Political Discussions

Bengaluru, April 25: Karnataka government minister Priyank Kharge downplayed the recent Delhi visit of Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president D.K. Shivakumar, dismissing ongoing discussions about leadership changes within the party.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Saturday, Priyank, the son of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, addressed the controversy surrounding Shivakumar’s trip. He noted that the Deputy Chief Minister met with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and rejected the criticism surrounding this visit.

Kharge questioned, “What is wrong with meeting a central minister? He went to discuss issues related to Bengaluru and development projects. Shouldn’t he meet with leaders?” He further emphasized that party workers also meet with leaders, and such interactions should not be contentious.

He raised a provocative question about whether BJP leaders would express similar concerns if Congress leaders met with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. “If our leaders meet Bhagwat, will you raise the same questions?” he asked.

On the topic of leadership change speculation within Congress, Kharge dismissed these discussions, stating that decisions in such matters are made by senior leaders like Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. He asserted, “There is no confusion here. Who else can make such decisions besides Kharge Sahib?”

Rejecting rumors of significant political upheaval, he stated, “There will be no ‘May Revolution’ or anything of that sort here.”

Kharge’s comments come amid heightened political speculation and ongoing debates about internal dynamics and leadership questions within the party, both in Karnataka and nationally.

He also reacted sharply to rumors related to alleged national political developments, including claims of AAP leader Raghav Chadha joining the BJP and discussions surrounding ‘Operation Lotus.’

Criticizing the BJP, Kharge questioned whether they were unaware of ‘Operation Lotus,’ a term often used to describe alleged attempts at political defection. He remarked, “Weren’t you the ones who introduced ‘Operation Lotus’ on a national platform? Everyone knows how such operations are conducted.”

Referring to AAP leaders like Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh, he noted that those active in national politics are well aware of such developments. He also questioned the silence of a section of the national media on this issue, implying selective coverage.
