New Delhi, March 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire incident at SCB Medical College in Cuttack, Odisha. The unfortunate event has resulted in the deaths of ten patients, with several others reported to be critically injured. The Prime Minister has announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased and the injured.
PM Modi extended his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. He declared that the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would provide ₹2 lakh to each family of the deceased, while injured individuals would receive ₹50,000 in financial support.
In a message on his social media account, the Prime Minister stated, “The incident at the hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, is extremely tragic. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the quick recovery of the injured. Each dependent of the deceased will receive ₹2 lakh from the PMNRF, and the injured will be given ₹50,000.”
Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Chara Mahanji also announced relief for the families of the deceased. He declared a compensation of ₹25 lakh for each family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) and mentioned that special arrangements would be made for the injured. The Chief Minister promptly contacted the affected families and hospital administration to oversee relief efforts.
The fire broke out suddenly in the ICU of SCB Hospital at 2:30 AM on Sunday-Monday. Within minutes, the flames escalated, leading to the loss of ten patients’ lives, while many others suffered severe injuries and are currently receiving necessary treatment.
