Portugal Advances to UEFA Nations League Quarterfinals with 2-1 Victory Over Norway

New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Portugal has clinched a place in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Nations League after a thrilling 2-1 victory against Norway. The match, held on October 5, 2026, saw the Portuguese team triumph without their star player, Cristiano Ronaldo.

The game took a dramatic turn in the 79th minute when Gonçalo Ramos scored the decisive goal. Norway initially took the lead through a stunning half-volley by Christopher Ajer. However, Portugal quickly equalized just two minutes later with a remarkable goal from João Cancelo.

Following the equalizer, Portugal seized control of the match. A brilliant pass from João Félix set up Ramos for the winning goal. Despite Francisco Conceição receiving a second yellow card and being sent off in the final minutes, Portugal maintained their lead and continued their winning streak in Group A4.

In other matches, Denmark and the Netherlands also secured important victories. Rasmus Hojlund’s composed penalty kick led Denmark to their second win of the campaign, extending their unbeaten run against Wales to five matches. Although Wales started strong with multiple attacks from Brennan Johnson and Lewis Colwill, Denmark gradually found their rhythm and came close to scoring before halftime.

In the second half, Wales’ goalkeeper Danny Ward made several impressive saves against shots from Hojlund and Isaksen. However, a costly mistake resulted in a penalty for Denmark, which Hojlund converted effortlessly, marking his third goal in the last four Nations League matches.

Meanwhile, in Eindhoven, the Netherlands defeated Serbia 2-1, with Joshua Zirkzee’s goal proving crucial. Under the guidance of coach Javi Hernández, the Dutch team maintained their unbeaten record. They dominated the first 30 minutes of the match, taking an early lead through a free-kick from Teun Koopmeiners that found its way into the net amidst a crowded defense.

Serbia’s Mihajlo Svetkovic equalized with a header, but Zirkzee restored the lead for the Netherlands with a close-range effort 19 minutes before the final whistle. This victory keeps the Netherlands’ record intact with two wins and two draws in the group stage.
