
New Delhi, April 1: India’s rising mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Pooja Tomar is gearing up for her return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on May 29. She will face China’s Shi Ming in a strawweight bout at the Galaxy Arena in Macau.
This matchup will be part of the undercard for ‘Road to UFC Season 5’, a platform aimed at promoting the best talents in Asia. The fight will take place just before the UFC Fight Night event on May 30, which features the main event of ‘Song vs. Figueiredo’.
This will mark Tomar’s third appearance in the UFC, where she aims to solidify her position in the strawweight division while representing India on a global stage.
Hailing from Budhana in Uttar Pradesh, Tomar has emerged as one of India’s leading MMA fighters. A five-time national wushu champion and former Matrix Fight Night titleholder, she made history in 2024 by becoming the first Indian woman to win a UFC fight. Known for her aggressive style and remarkable endurance, Pooja holds a professional record of 9-5.
Ahead of her bout against Shi Ming, Tomar expressed her dedication to training hard. She is ready to face any challenges posed by her Chinese opponent. “This fight is a significant step in my journey. Whenever I step into the octagon, I represent my country. My preparation is intense, and I am fully ready,” she stated.
