Visakhapatnam, April 6: The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), the official governing body for professional golf in India, has announced the inaugural edition of the Andhra Open. This tournament will take place from April 7 to April 10 at the East Point Golf Club. The total prize pool for the event is set at ₹1 crore.
Top Indian professional players participating include PGTI Order of Merit leader Saptaak Talwar, Veer Ahlawat, Om Prakash Chouhan, Manu Gandas, Angad Cheema (winner of EPGC 2024), Honey Baisoya, and Ajitesh Sandhu.
Among the top international players is Sri Lanka’s N. Thangaraja, the winner of EPGC 2023. The tournament will feature 18 foreign players from nine different countries. Local professionals S. Muthu and Mohammad Rahman will lead the local challenge.
PGTI CEO Amandeep Johal expressed excitement about returning to the East Point Golf Club and Visakhapatnam for the Andhra Open’s first edition. He stated, “Visakhapatnam is emerging as a golf hub in the country. We thank EPGC and all stakeholders for their support in this event.”
He further noted, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh is taking significant steps to establish itself as a progressive, investment-friendly, and globally competitive state. Initiatives like this strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s vision to become an international center for sports, tourism, and business.”
M.S.N. Raju, Secretary of East Point Golf Club, shared the club’s history, stating, “Established in 1884, the club relocated here in 1964. After receiving 18 acres of land from the government in 2018, we developed a championship course by 2021 and were awarded as one of India’s best-renovated golf courses in 2022. The APGA has also established its base at EPGC, promoting golf-related activities in Andhra Pradesh, including the DP World PGTI Andhra Open 2026. This marks our third time hosting a PGTI event.”
