Washington, August 25: U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Basent has announced a significant economic campaign against Iran. He stated that the goal is to sever Tehran’s economic lifelines and isolate the nation completely. He also warned that those who maintain ties with Tehran will face consequences.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Basent wrote, “The D-Day of World War II marked the beginning of a historic campaign where we, along with our allies, targeted the enemy in its strongholds, even in third countries, forcing them to retreat. Today, with that same spirit, we are launching a major economic campaign against Iran’s financial connections worldwide.”
He emphasized that the aim is to cut off every economic lifeline supporting this oppressive regime until Tehran is entirely alone.
Basent noted that President Trump has taken a step that his predecessors had long avoided. Under his leadership, the U.S. is not merely trying to manage or contain the threats from Iran but is actively working towards their complete elimination.
He added that those who stand with the U.S. will reap the benefits of this partnership. However, those who remain connected to Tehran will face isolation alongside a regime that is increasingly weakened and isolated.
