Political Reactions Emerge Following Arrest of TMC Leader in RG Kar Case

Kolkata, August 14: The arrest of former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Nirmal Ghosh in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has intensified political discourse in West Bengal. Leaders from both the TMC and BJP have expressed contrasting views regarding the arrest. TMC leaders have shown faith in the investigation and judicial process, asserting that the guilty must be punished. Conversely, BJP leaders criticized the arrest as a delayed response, leveling serious allegations against the government of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar commented on Nirmal Ghosh’s arrest, stating that the RG Kar incident was profoundly tragic. She emphasized that the case involves a doctor who suffered a grave crime at her workplace. The investigation must be conducted thoroughly, and those responsible should face legal consequences. However, she noted that she could not elaborate further on the matter.

NCP MP Sayoni Ghosh remarked that if a person is under suspicion or facing allegations, an investigation is essential. Since the RG Kar incident, the public has demanded a fair inquiry and action against the culprits. In line with this demand, the government has taken steps, and the police administration is performing its duties.

She expressed hope that those who need to cooperate with the investigation will do so with the agencies involved.

BJP MLA Prasenjit Bag launched a sharp attack on the TMC and the previous state government regarding Nirmal Ghosh’s arrest. He asserted that Ghosh’s arrest should have occurred much earlier, criticizing the delay in action.

The BJP legislator accused the government led by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of attempting to conceal various aspects related to the RG Kar case. With some arrests made, further actions against others may follow as the investigation progresses. It will also be examined whether Mamata Banerjee had any role in this entire affair.

TMC MP Dola Sen stated that conspiracy, falsehood, injustice, or any political campaign does not represent the ultimate truth. Her party believes in truth, justice, the Constitution, and the power of the people of India. Regardless of the actions taken by some, the public will ultimately deliver the final verdict.
