Surat, August 14: The cybercrime police in Surat have apprehended a fugitive involved in an investment fraud case amounting to ₹19.60 lakh as part of ‘Operation Mule Hunt 2.0’. Investigators discovered that approximately ₹2.73 crore was transacted through the bank accounts allegedly used to transfer the cyber fraud money.
According to police reports, the accused lured the complainant’s son into investing in the stock market, promising returns of up to 390% through a scheme called the ‘BRP Fund 100 – Day Wealth Leap Program’.
The fraudsters reportedly established contact via a WhatsApp group named ‘BRP Fund-Grow Together-008’ and the website ‘app.toloyayi.com’.
Victims were persuaded to log into the website, where false profits were displayed to create the illusion of returns on their investments. Subsequently, the money was allegedly transferred to various bank accounts. The complainant reported a loss of ₹19.60 lakh to the cybercrime cell in Surat.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008.
Among those recently arrested is 30-year-old driver Vivek Beldia, a resident of Kapodara, originally from Makhaniya village in Bhavnagar district. Police stated that two other suspects had already been apprehended.
These include 28-year-old Satyajit Manjareya from the Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad and 39-year-old businessman Pankajkumar Ramani from Vesu. Satyajit hails from Amreli, while Pankajkumar is from Dodiyala village in Rajkot district.
Investigations revealed that Pankajkumar obtained an ICICI Bank current account for Satyajit for a commission, which was later handed over to Vivek in exchange for a commission.
Police indicated that this account was subsequently given to the fugitive suspects and was used for transactions related to the funds obtained through cyber fraud.
