Jammus Development Neglected: Concerns Raised by Davinder Chaudhary

Mumbai, August 13: Davinder Chaudhary, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Transport Welfare Association, has raised serious concerns regarding the development, tourism, and management of the Amarnath Yatra in the Jammu region. He accused the government of focusing primarily on promoting Kashmir while consistently neglecting Jammu.

Chaudhary expressed worry over the natural ice Shiva Lingam at the Amarnath cave melting within just 8-10 days. He emphasized that this is a matter connected to the sentiments of devotees and could significantly impact tourism and local businesses in Jammu and Kashmir. In a recent conversation, he stated that if devotees cannot have a glimpse of Baba during the pilgrimage, it would hurt their feelings.

He suggested that the government should establish proper regulations for the viewing arrangements. A specific distance could be set from which devotees can have a glimpse of Baba Barfani. This year’s pilgrimage was largely peaceful, for which he thanked the government and security forces. However, he questioned the management of the journey, noting that the influx of a large number of devotees put pressure on the arrangements. The Amarnath Yatra is crucial for the livelihoods of thousands in Jammu, with hotels, taxis, transport, shops, and various businesses relying on the employment generated during this period.

Chaudhary argued that there should have been better management regarding the number of pilgrims allowed to participate in the journey. If a limited number of devotees were permitted daily, the pilgrimage could last longer, benefiting local businesses. Many people depend on the earnings from this journey throughout the year. This year, there were high hopes for the Amarnath Yatra, but the management fell short, leaving local businesses disappointed.

He claimed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, yet Jammu does not receive adequate attention in terms of development and tourism. He asserted that Jammu’s share in budget and development projects is alarmingly low. The government’s focus has always been on how to highlight Kashmir more. Why is Jammu being overlooked? There is a lack of sufficient promotion from the tourism department in Jammu. Jammu should also equally benefit from development and tourism.

Chaudhary concluded by questioning why Jammu is not receiving its rightful share. Serious efforts must be made to enhance tourism, business, and development in Jammu. The government needs to take concrete steps to save and advance Jammu.
