Lucknow, April 19: Following the failure to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Saturday. During his speech, he labeled several opposition parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, as anti-women. In response, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad criticized the central government.
In an interview with a news agency, Prasad stated, “This is not a women’s bill; it is a calculated political game by the BJP. After 11 years, the government found itself cornered in the House and lacked majority support. As soon as they lost, papers began circulating. Did they know beforehand that the bill would fail?”
He accused the government of playing political tricks, saying, “The government was aware that this bill would fall, and it would shift the blame to the opposition. The opposition is fully in favor of women’s rights and respect. The government had a plan to introduce a delimitation bill. They did not want to give women their due, but today their deception has backfired. The women’s bill was passed unanimously in 2023; why has it not been implemented?”
Prasad claimed that the BJP is set to lose in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. He remarked, “The BJP’s good days are coming to an end. They know their government will fall in Uttar Pradesh in 2027, and a government led by Akhilesh Yadav will take its place. They are merely creating confusion among the people. This is a tactic to divert attention from their poor policies.”
He added, “The government’s conspiracy was to deny rights to backward classes, minorities, and Dalits, but the Samajwadi Party is fully prepared and determined to fight for their rights. Our leader clearly stated in the House that we are not against the women’s bill; we stand for their respect and safety.”
