Opposition Betrays Women and Southern States, Claims Shobha Karandlaje

Hyderabad, April 19: Shobha Karandlaje, the Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Labour and Employment, accused the Congress and the INDIA alliance on Sunday of betraying not only the women of the country but also the entire southern region.

In a press conference, she stated that April 17 would be remembered as a dark day in the history of Indian women.

She asserted that the NDA government introduced the 33% reservation bill for women alongside the delimitation bill to safeguard the interests of southern states.

Karandlaje clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to protect those southern states that have effectively implemented population control measures, ensuring they are not treated unfairly in future censuses.

She criticized the Congress and INDIA alliance leaders for celebrating the failure of these bills in Parliament, disregarding national interests as if it were a festival.

Their laughter and embraces, she claimed, are evidence of a conspiracy to divide the nation along north-south lines.

She pointed out that in opposing the Modi-led government, the opposition has overlooked the significance of the women’s reservation bill and the legitimate demands of women. The Congress and its allies have stood against women, delaying their long-awaited representation.

Expressing her disappointment, Karandlaje mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah proposed increasing parliamentary seats by 50% for each state in southern India to ensure justice, but the Congress and INDIA alliance rejected it.

She accused the opposition of acting solely for political gain, which could exacerbate regional divisions in the future.

Karandlaje stated that the INDIA alliance has betrayed southern states by blocking proposals to increase parliamentary seats in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

She claimed this has deprived Telangana of the opportunity to increase its MPs from 17 to 26 and Andhra Pradesh from 25 to 38.

She also targeted the A. Revanth Reddy government in Telangana, alleging that injustice has been done to the public under Congress rule.

Karandlaje highlighted that the Congress has failed to fulfill promises made in previous elections, such as providing financial aid of ₹2,500 to women, electric scooters for female students, unemployment benefits, increasing Asara pensions, and giving one tola of gold to married daughters.

She accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of making false statements about Prime Minister Modi to please the party high command while failing to deliver on promises, thus robbing the public.

She emphasized that under PM Modi’s leadership, women’s empowerment has been given special priority over the past decade.

Karandlaje noted that, in addition to education, scholarships, and insurance schemes, 60% of Mudra loans and 53% of MSME subsidies have been allocated to women.
